Kuban Cossacks
Cossack host by the Kuban River
Kuban Cossacks or Kubanians are Cossacks who live in the Kuban region of Russia and form an integral part of Russian Cossackdom. Historically, they constituted a branch of the Cossack hosts in the North Caucasus of the Russian Empire, inhabiting the territories of modern Krasnodar Krai, the western part of Stavropol Krai, as well as Adygea and Karachay-Cherkessia. The Kuban Cossack Host was formed by imperial decree of 19 November 1860, which amalgamated the Caucasus Line Cossack Host with the Black Sea Cossack Host. The remaining units of the Caucasus Line Cossack Host were reorganized into the Terek Cossack Host.
